3. My mandala has a lot of patterns and movement that make me think of happiness and joy, and even Mickey ears. I like dancing and the squiggly lines remind me of that and I'm always happy when I'm dancing. I like patterns that remind me of certain aspects of design because I love art and designing things and that keeps me at my happiest and I feel are positive qualities of me. I want to take care of myself in many different ways and focus on how to create the best possible me. I want to take more time for myself to make sure I'm doing okay.

1. I felt overwhelmed one week when I was very busy and had a speech due among a lot of other homework. I experienced a lot of anxiety and stress. I couldn't deal with the emotions I was feeling and didn't want to face anyone. I had a huge fear of speaking in front of people, especially when I couldn't speak conversationally and had struggles with speaking clearly and comfortably. To change my emotions I just tried not to think about it and used positive self talk to calm myself down.
2.
One strategy I would like to use in the future is to journal. I kept a journal for my entirety of high school, and eighth grade as well. It helped a lot with dealing with all my crazy emotions. I would write about it and it seemed like I'd get it outside of my head.
Another strategy I'd like to use is listen to uplifting music. I enjoy a lot of worship music and that calms me down so utilizing this strategy can be a positive thing for me.

1. I felt sadness and depression once I left my job. For weeks I'd be sad all the time, not wanting to accept anyone's efforts to help me. Loneliness covered me like a blanket. I felt like my friends didn't exist anymore and that I had no relationships with anyone around me.
2. I felt happiness and joy during my birthday when we went to Disney. We gleefully went from country to country in the World Showcase at Epcot. We tasted delicious, savory foods and smiled as we saw different characters.
3. I didn't enjoy writing about my past sadness and depression because it's very recent. I enjoyed and felt happy revisiting the joyful emotions during my birthday.

2. I made a commitment to myself when I was in tenth grade to not drink soda for a month. I realized and was trying to acknowledge that I had an addiction to Coca Cola for my whole life and I wanted to make a change. I decided that if I stopped drinking soda for thirty days then I would lose my dependency on it. Since soda was around a lot, my mom drinks it all the time, and there were opportunities at get-togethers, it made it quite difficult. Mentally, I really craved it and just wanted it because it was nice to have with meals. I didn't like the bland water I was drinking but after a few weeks of making it through I started actually enjoying the water and feeling better. I got through the commitment I made and I was really proud of myself.

1. My most challenging course is College Algebra this semester. The subject itself is probably my toughest. Ever since easy math went away it has been my biggest struggle with school, until Physics came along. The fact that it's a hybrid class probably doesn't help. I don't like how much information I have to learn and that it is not easy stuff to comprehend or remember. I like visual things and being able to see facts and phrases but math is all conceptual. It's so hard for to me to ingrain it in my brain.
2. Next time I take this course, I will do a regular face-to-face class and try to pick a different teacher that more understands my needs of students like me.

B. I am off course in college. I was planning on graduating with my AA in May of 2016 but because I am failing my math course that is no longer possible. In order to get off course I need to reevaluate my plans and figure out what the best choice is for me. I think I may apply to UCF instead of getting my AA and see where I can go from there. The lesson the University of Life is trying to teach me is to learn to adapt to different situations and not give up completely.

My Personal Rules for Success in College and in Life
1. Be on time.
2. Study with others.
3. Don't procrastinate on homework.
4. Keep a planner for all your assignments.
5. Start on bigger assignments early.
6. Prioritize by doing the harder things first.
7. Ask questions when you are lost.
8. Ask for help from your peers.
2. I like my rules, I think these will help a lot in my success for college and life. My rule that is most important to me is #4 because keeping a planner and writing my to-do's and assignments really keep me on course and helps me not forget what I have to work on next.

IG: In what area of your life are you off course?
Me: I'm not learning the stuff I want to, like web design.
IG: Would you like to say more about that? (Expansion)
Me: I feel like I'm often busy doing other things and I'm scared I won't do well with it.
IG: What self-defeating thought patterns of yours may have contributed to this situation?
Me: I think they are other people who are smarter and better than me at this so it feels like it could be a waste.
IG: Why do you think that? (Clarification)
Me: I've always grown up being insecure with myself at least a little, and I have a constant confidence level to where I feel like I can't achieve things.
IG: Interesting. A lot of people go through that insecurity. What different thoughts could you choose to get back on course?
Me: I could choose to think and remember that I have a nice goal at my age and not many people know exactly what they're doing or what they want, and I do have some experience that I need to just build on.
IG: What self-defeating emotional patterns could have contributed?
Me: I get worried and nervous when projects seem to big or the stuff seems to complicated. I'm not sure if I could do it.
IG: So you want things to always be clear to you.
Me: Yes. It scares me when I don't get something.
IG: That's understandable, but it is all part of the process. Everybody has to go through learning. What different emotions can you choose?
Me: I can choose to be thankful for knowing what I want to do and happy that I have great resources to do it.

1. One self-defeating behavior pattern I have is that I get really distracted by just scrolling through social media on my iPhone. Even though I barely watch TV, this is something that also wastes a good chunk of time when you add it all up. Instead of doing homework, I might just lay down on my bed and scroll through Facebook or look through my Instagram feed, or watch videos of cute babies or something. This habit is definitely because of how easy it is to get distracted with technology these days. When I was younger, or even two years ago, I did not yet have a smartphone so scrolling through Facebook while laying down in bed is something I didn't even have an option of doing. The effects this has on my life is that there is a lot of time wasted that I could be using to better myself and work on my goal. If I changed this, I feel like I'd be a lot closer to doing the job I want.
2. One of the self-defeating thought patterns I have is that I wonder if I have the discipline to be a web designer or am even good enough to do it. When I have a lot of time my brain goes to this and it thinks further down the road and looks at a future where it is not possible. What may have caused this is that there are so many adults who are not doing what they love, so I think about that and how it could definitely be an outcome for me. This has caused me to be unsure when I start tasks that work toward my goal. If I improved this pattern, I could probably get more stuff done that has to do with my goal and get further and further.

1. Earlier this year I was off course in my work life because I took offense to a lot of things and took everything too seriously. I was making choices that was all about myself, or rather thinking about only myself, in these work situations and not about other people around me. I started going to church and giving my life to God, and that's what helped me get back on course. It was definitely difficult making changes in my daily life to calm down and just acknowledge that I need to put everyone else before myself. I was able to stick with going to church with my good friends and being in that positive environment gave me weekly reminders about what is most important in life. As a result of this change, I became a lot happier of a person and even though I did go through struggles during that season of my life, the most important thing is that I found what I actually wanted from life. If I hadn't made this change, I definitely feel like I might be depressed today.
2. Today, I am off course in learning web design, which is what I want to do as a career. I finally left that job I was at and realized it wasn't as important to me as I thought it was. It was a fun place to work but it largely hindered what I actually wanted to do. After getting to know God I realized that money isn't as important as I think it to be and I need to just slow down and look at my priorities. I wanted to work as much as I could just to get the number in my bank account higher. After realizing that wasn't what was making me happy, I knew I had to leave my job and now I am going to work on myself and teach myself skills that'll get me the job that I would love to have in the future.

1. B.
Dear Lisa,
I'm having a lot of trouble in College Algebra. I need to pass this class because it is required for UCF's Digital Media degree. I want to be a Web Designer and it is very important to me. If I get that degree it will most likely be a lot easier to get jobs in the field. My obstacle is that I am terrible at understanding almost every math concept. I know you have succeeded in math classes and I think you can help me. In the past you have helped me so I am hesitant because we are sisters and fight easily. However, please help me in my math endeavors. I need you to go over homework with me and teach me the problems, then make sure I have it right by having me do practice problems over and over again.
2. I haven't been particularly assertive. I'm not trying to rush and I also want to learn Web Design concepts as that is my true goal. I can learn that outside of school because the internet is an amazing resource, so I am not going to put more weight than I want to on math. It has affected my self esteem as I am now more comfortable with myself. I want to level more and blame less, and make requests where I need to in order to get closer to my dream.

I walked to the back for the fifth time to get a drink of water, but did I let my shift leader know? No. Even though this isn't the nicest thing to do in a restaurant even though all of the guests have been taken care of, I've been upset because the shift leader hasn't said a word to me the entire night. Working in this food court can get a little busy sometimes but as the assistant to the shift leader I really should be told when she is leaving and where she is going when she's going to be gone for ten or more minutes at a time.
This time when I went in the back, she followed me. Machines were beeping all around me as they were cooking chicken and the boys were busying themselves. All of a sudden, she yelled at me. This was the first thing to me she has said all night and she was screaming that I need her permission to get a drink. I felt so disrespected. If a shift leader doesn't want to talk and ignore me when I try to communicate about what is happening, then I am not going to ask permission to get some water if she is mad for no reason.
I walk to the back again to get a drink of water. I haven't been asking the shift leader if I can do this, but since she hasn't been communicating with me the whole night, I don't care to. She is not treating me like her assistant as I am supposed to be. She should be letting me know when she is leaving and where she is going -- especially if that is going to be longer than 10 minutes.
But this time when I went in the back, she followed me. The boys were all working and cooking food. She then apologized to me and told me her emotions were getting to her and that's why she hasn't talked to me all night. She explained she has tasks for me to do and again said that she's sorry for the way she's been acting. She then asked if I could let her know each time I got a drink because it is helpful to her when she knows where all of the service workers are at all times. I forgave her and then told her I could definitely do that, and for the rest of the night we were able to communicate and I told her when I was going to get a drink. I felt really respected and closing went much smoother.

ME: I'm failing math and I don't know how to manage my time with the assignments.
IG: Can you elaborate? (Expansion)
ME: I have so much homework between all my classes and working most of the week so that I value my free time over doing math.
IG: So you mostly need help with managing your time? (Clarification)
ME: Yeah. I keep a planner but it's hard for me with having over 10 assignments every week within all my classes that it's hard to put in time to study.
IG: I see. (Silence)
ME: I wish I could be one of those studious people but when it comes to math I feel like I cannot fit everything into my week.
IG: So it feels like you lack time? (Reflection)
ME: Yes.
IG: Maybe if you eliminate the time you put in to other aspects of your life, then math won't seem as daunting.
2. I learned that I really really hate math and I cannot stand it. I love planners and planning but it's still hard to keep up with. I want to do all my assignments when I have them planned for it, but other events and my social life often gets in the way and it's tough to do all that. I've realized my time is going crazy this semester so I've actually already let my job know I'm leaving. My last day will be tomorrow. It'll help me focus on school and it's really sad that I have to leave, and because money is important to save, but at this time it is all just too tough. Math is a crazy subject for me this semester and even though I wanted to pass, and I did try, that my efforts were just not worth. College Algebra is too difficult a class for me and I may be attempting it for a third time next semester. All will be well though.

1. An outer obstacle that stands between me and my success in college is a teacher that has a heavy accent and a lack of time because of work.
2. Someone besides me who could help me overcome this outer obstacle is my sister.
3. How this person could help me is by teaching me math.
4. An inner obstacle that stands between me and my success in college is my lack of motivation for subjects that I do not care for.
5. Someone who could help me overcome this inner obstacle is my mom.
6. How this person could help me is by reminding me to do my work and that it has to be done even if I don't like it.
7. The most challenging course I am taking this semester is College Algebra.
8. This course is challenging for me because it's hard for me to understand and comprehend math concepts and I cannot for the life of me understand why I need to know any of it. Success Strategies I feel like is so much more beneficial to the general public.
9. Someone besides me who could help me overcome this challenge are math tutors.
10. These people could help me by teaching me math.
2. I could get a study group together with all of the people I know and friends I know who aren't or haven't succeeded in math. I could also get a math tutor and have my mom encourage me and support me. I don't want to do any of this though, it is too much work and I have my eyes set on different things that seem better to me.

I smell room freshener in here as I think about all of the stuff I have packed up. I am excited for next week when I get to move in and finally put away all of my personal belongings and I get to cook in my new place.

B. If I were a teacher, I would write back to the anonymous student that missed day four: It's okay that you missed a day and don't judge yourself for it. Keeping a commitment is hard but it is for yourself. Learn from that broken promise and continue to work hard at it. You can start over on Day 1, and do even better than you did last time. Giving up after making a mistake doesn't do anything for yourself. I would say to the other student: Even though it is just a homework assignment, it has the power to greatly benefit you. You have the choice to keep up with it or not, but in the end you may find yourself with more success.
Entry 14
1. I got a notepad from Michael's that lists the days of the week horizontally, with a space for a list under each day. I write down in pen my work schedule for each day; this changes every week but once the schedule is released it does not change. I cut sticky notes to a size that fits in the list and write down each homework assignment that I have due for the week. This way, I can move them around between the days if something comes up or I feel it would be better to complete it a different day. I feel calm using this approach because I feel like I have things under control and can get things done.
2. I would benefit from keeping a monthly calendar. I started out the year using a planner where I wrote down all of my known assignments for the semester, however I don't look at it much anymore after using my weekly method. I have tried using a smart phone in the past, but I just really prefer handwriting down my lists and things I have to do. I feel like it helps keep me on track more and it seems more realistic and hands-on. I also like the idea of a next-actions list because I could use that instead of the monthly calendar to keep up with bigger assignments that are due later.

4. I discovered that I should be a bit more proud of myself that I don't have a crazy amount of things in Quadrant 4. I spend the most time in Quadrant 1 and 2. I spend a lot of time doing certain tasks that are very necessary in my life. I could reach my goals but if I try to manage my time even more it'll probably work out even better. If I am lazy or don't feel like doing homework, that definitely keeps me from doing purposeful actions. I feel good about my discoveries. I think I can make better use of my time by analyzing it. I want to do more of my homework earlier in the week. It gets tough when I have roughly ten assignments a week, trying to balance it between work and classes. Hopefully I can plan my week out with school work where I don't get too overwhelmed.

I want to do more of my homework earlier in the week. It gets tough when I have roughly ten assignments a week, trying to balance it between work and classes. Hopefully I can plan my week out with school work where I don't get too overwhelmed.

Entry 12
1. I am going to graduate with my BachelorÅ› degree in Digital Media in May of 2018.
2. Diligent, kind, motivated, happy, free, laid-back, determined, courageous
3. Determined, courageous, kind
4. I am a determined, courageous, kind woman.
I am a determined, courageous, kind woman creating my dreams.
I am a determined, courageous, kind woman, and I love life.
5. I am a determined, courageous, kind woman, and I love life.
6. The first quality in my affirmation is determined. I remember being determined when I wanted to save up and buy my iMac. I had to wait a long time in order to do it, and that is when I got my first job. Eventually I saved up the huge sum of money and I purchased it online. When it came in the mail I felt accomplished of achieving that long-term goal of buying something that will help my career in the future.
The second quality is courageous. When I knew I had to get a job I felt courageous. I was very very shy growing up and the prospect of turning in an application and going on interviews deeply haunted me and gave me a lot of anxiety. Despite those fears and feelings I was able to be courageous and I wound up getting a job that I still have today. My life would be very different had I not shown courage to myself.
The third quality is kind. I show kindness to my friends when they are in need, and even when they are not in need. I do not show kindness as often as I would like, but surprising them with smoothies or Starbucks makes their day a little brighter and it helps me realize caring about others before yourself is important.
Entry 11
1. I have just gotten my diploma in the mail of my BachelorÅ› degree in Digital Media. I am on my way to my internship which I will complete over the summer and have a job already lined up in the fall. I am adding my achievement to my online portfolio which has gained many web sites over the last couple of years that I added to my portfolio. I am very excited and motivated to design more and learn more of my trade. I am in an apartment that is nicely-decorated and I am using my iMac computer that I bought a few years ago that I still love. Some of my friends and classmates have had me design web sites for them and their prospective jobs. I have made my parents proud and can pay them back any money that they have lent me. In my apartment I have candles that smell like vanilla throughout. I cook healthy meals a lot and keep an organized life that goes hand-in-hand with my new web design career. I am deeply happy at getting to enjoy and experience this goal that I have had.

My Life Plan
1.
My dream: Become a Web designer
My life role: Student
My long-term goals in this role: Graduate with my AA by May 2016, transfer to UCF in August 2016, graduate with a BachelorÅ› in Digital Media by May 2018
My short-term goals in this role: Pass College Algebra with at least a C by December 2015, apply organization and thinking skills from Success Strategies by December 2015, learn something new in Spanish by December 2015, get rid of nerves with Speech by December 2015
2. I have learned how very important it is for me to succeed in this math class. If I do not I will have to repeat it for a third time next semester. This class is the only class I have taken that I have had major trouble in, and one of the only few classes I am going to need for my degree in the future. This is one most important goal in my life right now. I have asked for less hours at work in order to study more math even though my scores are not showing that right now. Hopefully soon they will get higher.
Entry 9
1.
Desired Outcome: Pass my College Algebra class. Value: I will be able to transfer to UCF and not have to take College Algebra ever again, and be able to start my Digital Media degree.
Desired Outcome: Apply ways of thinking that I learn from my Success Strategies class. Value: I will be more organized and positive about life and success.
Desired Outcome: Let go of nerves in my speech class. Value: If I can get through my speech class which I have been dreading to take for years, other things that I dread will become less of a big deal.
2.
Desired Exprience: Have fun with friends. Value: If I enjoy time with friends I will build a better network of people and hopefully succeed more, along with remembering a social life outside of school.
Desired Exprience: Community Value: If I get more involved and use the resources the school has to offer I will be able to better equip myself at my future college and make the most of things.
Desired Exprience: Academic enjoyment Value: I want to be able to enjoy learning and realize that learning is very important in life and continue it throughout my years.
3. 9 x 7 = 63. If I take classes that better suit myself my score can be higher and I will be able to keep myself at a higher motivation.

Popson's Dilemma
Professor Harvey: I think Professor Harvey gave the best advice. I feel it is very true that you can't motivate someone else and that they have to be motivated from themselves. Teachers can help students as much as they can but there is never a guarantee anything will actually work. When they truly want something they will go for it. Everyone has different things that motivate them.
Professor Assante: I don't think this professor gave very great advice. It's hard for me to see how some of my courses are going to help me build my career in the future. Any math teacher could go on and on about why math is important, but very few students will ever start to think that way or believe what that teacher is saying.

1)
1. What's my present situation? I don't enjoy living at home anymore and think I will more succeed if I live elsewhere.
2. How would I like my situation to be? I would like to live either by myself or with my friend in a reasonable area near my job.
3. What are my possible choices? I can move with two other people farther from my work, or find a place near my job but maybe costs more money. I could also just stay here and try to deal with it.
4. What's the likely outcome of each possible choice? I would have to do a lot of driving, or spend a little more by living nearer my job. If I stay here I would maybe not do as well in other areas of my life.
5. What choices will I commit to doing? I will find a place near my job.
6. When and how will I evaluate my plan? By the end of October hopefully I will have this all figured out.
2) By doing the Wise Choice Process, I learned that I have the ability to fix what I find negative in life. Evaluating and analyzing what is wrong helps to figure out the steps I need to complete in order to fix a difficult situation.

1. Creator: If I left earlier, I would be able to find a spot to park on campus.
2. I'm failing my online class because the site is impossible to navigate.
2. If I watch the orientation videos for Canvas and ask my teacher when I have questions, I'll be able to navigate the site.
3. I'm too shy to ask questions in class even when I'm confused.
3. If I wait until my teacher's advising hours I can ask my questions without the class being there.
4. She's a lousy instructor. That's why I failed the first test.
4. If I go to tutoring I could maybe find help from someone that I'll understand better.
5. I hate group projects because people are lazy and I always end up doing all the work.
5. If I ask my teacher maybe she can put me in a group with people that are more likely to contribute.
6. I wish I could write better, but I can't.
6. If I practice writing I will probably get better.

10. I work nights so I didn't have time to complete this assignment.
10. I work nights, so I'm going to do my assignments during the day time.
3. In some situations it is my habit to speak as a Victim, and in others as a Creator. I blame myself a lot and am ashamed when I don't do well in my classes because I know I procrastinate a lot, ever since middle school. I want to take these skills I'm learning and incorporate them in my language and realize by changing my behaviors I can turn negative situations into positive ones.
Entry 5
1. If I take personal responsibility for my education, I will set aside a large amount of time to make sure I understand and know the math concepts.
2. If I take personal responsibility for my career, I will make sure I am up-to-date and learning new things with web design.
3. If I take personal responsibility for my relationships, I will focus more on being selfless and being a good friend.

5. If I take personal responsibility for all that happens to me, I will go about life a lot less stressed.
2. B. Last semester I had to drop two of my classes because I wasn't doing well. I took personal responsibility for it and realized what I had done to not do well in those classes. The effect was I'm a lot more focused and organized this semester. I am having to repeat my math class and I'm trying a lot harder than I did last semester.

College Customs Exercises
1. My sister had been at EFSC first and longer than I have, and she said the custom she wish she had known is how strict deadlines are and how big of a deal missing days or assignments is. She gained the knowledge and grew to get everything done and be aware of all assignments.
2. The student's GPA is 2.08.
3. None of the college customs really surprise me. Since I've been enrolled in college as a dual enrolled student since tenth grade I'm used to these customs. The most challenging is not packing up before the class is over. It's nice being out quickly so you can move on to your next class or activity for the day. I'd like to hear more about what to do after an absence instead of asking your instructor.

- Don't e-mail your instructor if it's a Canvas issue, in that case, you need to call IT for help.
- Make sure you are available during the proctored exam to go to the campus and take a test.
- E-mail your instructor as early as possible in the week with questions instead of waiting til the weekend.
- Always do thorough discussion replies to classmates that are engaging.
- Schedule your proctored exams early because it can fill up quickly.
- Start homework early in the week in case any computer issues happen and you need to get to a Starbucks.
Journal Entry 4
1. I'm good at grammar, I'm good at dancing, I am friendly, I can dance, I am reliable, I am organized, I'm good at art, I am good with my money, I am good with making web sites, and I am a good listener.
2. I'm bad at math, I am out of shape, it's hard for me to pay attention, I procrastinate, it's difficult to finish reading a book, it's hard to be in social situations, I am often late, I stress easily about work, I'm not confident in certain situations, and I regret decisions.
3. I think my present state of self-esteem is 5. I think working made my self esteem lower in some ways because I believed I was great at what I did but the supervisors continually only use me when they have to and prefer others to be in higher positions. I would like my self esteem to be an 8. If I work at a place where hierarchy isn't as significant I think my self esteem would be better.

Journal Entry 3
1. One thing I enjoyed learning is some Korean language.
2. I went online and found web sites dedicated to English speakers learning Korean. I would write the symbols of their letters over and over and make flash cards for vocabulary words, and watch videos. I had a notebook and would also teach others who wanted to learn a little bit. I brought a vocabulary book with me to school and would look at it during downtime. I tried to do it most days of the week. I would spend a few hours at a time learning new grammar or words. I would talk to Korean speakers online and take quizzes testing my knowledge. I loved learning Korean. It made me feel unique and my eyes were opened to a different world. Hearing Korean songs I can hear phrases and words I understand, and it has also brought me closer to the culture.
3. By reading and writing about learning, I have learned that it takes time and patience to learn new concepts. I will use this knowledge to maximize my learning in college by making sure I have time to thoroughly engage in my classes and take the steps necessary to succeed.

Journal Entry 2
1. My last school was a Junior and Senior High School so it had ages from 12 to 18. In college, the ages can be 16 with dual enrollments kids with no limit. It was interesting coming here and seeing the older students but it reminds me to get my schoolwork done and be studious; they would probably say it's better to get college out of the way when you're younger. In my last school a lot of the students were immature and quite childish but everything is taken more seriously in college. The professors don't really need to reprimand the students like the teachers did at my previous school. Also, talking about mature subjects isn't really an issue since everyone at college is an adult, or almost an adult. At my old school kids would giggle and whisper more often.
As I mentioned, the teachers' treatment of students is also different, especially with the reprimanding. Since college students are more mature the teachers seldom have to "control" their class. At my high school the students are loud and often ignore the teacher's requests. However, since college is a lot more serious, professors often won't extend due dates or accept late work. At my high school this was done frequently even if a student just forgot about it. It's interesting to see how in college that won't slide at all, but it is a great lesson and makes for students being more aware of their duties. In turn, they become successful in their careers.
2. My high school was a "choice" school. That meant students had to get C's or higher in order to enroll and maintain that average throughout their middle and high school years or they would be kicked out. At this school the expectation for good grades was quite heavy. It gave me a lot of pressure and stress as it did most students. Approaching graduation, a complicated senior project had to be completed and everyone was required to apply to college. The school had a huge expectation of its students and it definitely made me bitter about education. I felt like I wasn't learning to learn but just learning to get a certain letter. If students got almost all straight A's administration would have a small party at the end of the quarter and give them pizza; but even that was very restricted. The school wanted perfect grades, and a lot of the times that's what it got.
Hand in hand with good grades, the importance of a college education throughout going to this school was extremely significant. At every graduation ceremony, the principal explains how everyone was accepted in to a college and boasts where these students got in to. I agree college is important but it was tough going through school and it being so forced on me. Starting in middle school students talk about which college they'd like to attend, and during senior year the stress and pressure escalates as they are applying and hoping to get in to the school they'd like.

Journal Entry 1
1. My Score: Self-Assessment Area:
56 Score #1: Accepting Personal Responsibility
56 Score #2: Discovering Self-Motivation
47 Score #3: Mastering Self-Management
37 Score #4: Employing Interdependence
36 Score #5: Gaining Self-Awareness
37 Score #6: Adopting Lifelong Learning
47 Score #7: Developing Emotional Intelligence
49 Score #8: Believing in Myself
2. My highest scores were with accepting self-responsibility and discovering self-motivation. This was interesting to see. I do see myself as the one thing that can change how my life goes. If I work harder, have more willpower, get more organized, I feel like I can be more successful in life. When I am lazy and do not try hard I know it is my fault if I don't get things I want. I've had a goal for about two years with my college education and what degree I'd like to major in in the future. It's something I'm really interested in and I envision it coming to life.
3. I was sad to see my low score was in adapting lifelong learning. Unfortunately most of the time when I do take classes I do not see a high value in learning the material so my education becomes a huge challenge for me especially learning subjects I do not care about. Employing interdependence was also a low score for me. I've never tried to get tutoring on any subject I struggled with growing up and that definitely negatively affected my outcome in some of my grades. I should learn to reach out more and become a part of my close community for the sake of my education.
